The subscription version of MicrosoftExcel included with
Office offers an extremely flexible feature called RANDOM MATRIX . This is a
dynamic array that has some special features that we will discuss below.
The basic syntax looks like this:

In older Excel versions, random values can only be generated
with the formulas "RANDOM AREA" and "RANDOM NUMBER".
All five arguments are optional. So if you don't specify
anything, only a decimal number between 0 and 1 is generated:
This corresponds to the function RANDOM NUMBER in older
versions of Excel. In order to take advantage of the new formula, you should
therefore also be familiar with the other levers.
With the first two arguments you determine how many rows and
columns you want to fill with random values. If you specify values for min and
max , you also determine the lower and upper limits of the random numbers.
Finally, the whole_number argument can take the values TRUE (or 1 ) or FALSE
(or 0 ). This is telling Excel to output an integer or a decimal number.
For example, if you want to cause
random numbers as integer values in ten rows and six columns that are between 1
and 49, the following formula helps:
However, lottery numbers can only be generated to a limited
extent in this way, as duplicate values can also occur.
The strength of the array function is that you only need to
enter the formula in a single cell. The matrix then automatically expands to
the extent required by the arguments. However, this dynamic behavior can also
quickly lead to an error.
This is the case if there are already other entries in the
surrounding cells that the function wants to fill with values. Excel does not
overwrite this without comment, but instead issues the message # OVERFLOW! the
end. Once you get the content in the way to anotherJob move, the problem is
already solved.
If you want to change a parameter in the formula, you can
only do this in the cell in which you entered the matrix function. For all other
cells, the formula is grayed out in the editing line.
